The United States and Ukraine have agreed to talk about a revised peace framework, after what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the “best talks” of President Trump’s current term. The talks, held in Geneva, aimed to address concerns about an earlier draft that was too biased toward Moscow.
The updated plan includes stronger security guarantees for Kyiv and adjustments proposed by European officials, who had pushed back against limits on Ukraine’s armed forces and territorial concessions. While optimism has grown, key questions remain unresolved — including Ukraine’s long-term protection against Russia and NATO’s role in any final settlement.
As the fighting nears its fourth year, the revised peace framework signals progress but Kyiv needs to balance its sovereign rights with the need to maintain vital US support. More talks are expected after Trump's Thursday deadline as negotiators refine language, security conditions and geopolitical red lines.
